about the author

From a young age, writing stories has always been a great passion of mine. My imagination is like a hungry monster that needs regular meals, and pen and paper make the perfect knife and fork for it. I find no greater escapism than writing stories, and knowing that I can go anywhere and make anything happen. Twenty years before I completed the Earthenseers, I passed an honours degree in Journalism, from Falmouth College of Arts. It was my intention to have a career in journalism, which I saw as the best occupation to sate my literary addiction.  However like most twenty-something-year olds, I found better money elsewhere, and moved sideways into marketing, leaving journalism behind in the interests of greater financial security and earnings potential.  That didn’t stop the beast’s hunger to fill every blank page of course, which is why I continue writing whenever and wherever I find the chance. The Earthenseers was written almost completely on trains during my daily commute. When you look at today’s society, self-satisfaction is a rare motivation for creativity. I started writing a book several times in the past, but lost momentum part way through, and I think that is because I was too focused on the story’s reception. This time I was writing just for the enjoyment of the story itself. Initially I followed no concrete plot, and this enabled me to enjoy its twists and turns just as if I were the reader. The global population crisis is a theme in the book and a great worry to me. It astounds me how many people are ignorant of the threat the human race pose, and I’m hoping this book at least gives people pause for thought, on what they can do to help out future generations suffer a little less.  Most of the characters have facets of my own personality (both the good parts and the bad). My children will read this book one day, and I’m hoping it gives some insight into my mind, soul and what I think is important in the world. My wife Michelle and I have four children between us, Becky, Jude, James and Jack. I own a small but successful marketing company, bringing profit to investment companies through advertising and creative solutions.

about the book

Sam Brayshaw leads a mundane life in a grimy London suburb, with a job that doesn't suit him. As his affinity with nature leads to abilities he never knew he possessed, he gets drawn unwittingly into a power struggle between two ancient and powerful cults. Meanwhile, a dark threat is watching and waiting from a billion light years away, and it will only be satisfied with the total obliteration of all life on Earth.
